Whenever I think of shopping online in Ghana, Jumia Ghana is one of the first places that comes to mind probably because Jumia Online Shopping Company is investing so much into their marketing campaign. Barring that though, their services… well I will talk about that as you read on.
Jumia Ghana prides itself as Ghana’s no. 1 online shopping mall. Deservingly so, but who determines that. They have variety of products… in fact almost anything you can think of, Jumia online shopping Ghana has an option for you.
I have been quite the daring type. Always ready to risk it when it comes to parting with money. That way I decided to take a chance on Jumia Ghana. I ordered my first product from their website.
The website is actually sleek and quite easy to navigate. Guess what I ordered for? For testing the waters… I decided to Buy a television set. A Samsung 55” Curved TV which was going for GHC 5000.00… You may be thinking, “are you crazy? “ hahahaha… I like to do it big even when I have not tried the shop before!
My first hurdle was how to make payment. MTN mobile money wouldn’t allow me to transfer that amount to Jumia Ghana so I had to choose the option of bank transfer! Walking to the bank, queuing etc… I actually wanted to avoid this hence my decision to shop online!
Anyway, I still went to the bank and got some premium service so I didn’t have to queue. That was a headache removed. I transferred the money smoothly and within 24 hours got notified that payment has been received. The process for delivery of my TV had started and I was waiting anxiously for it.
One week went by, then a second week and the item still hadn’t been shipped… I was monitoring from their dashboard. I started getting worried. Have gambled 5000ghc away like that? I decided to give them a few more days before I hit my “Panic Button”
Before my self-imposed deadline, I got an email stating that my order has been…… CANCELED! I was like… what?! Their reason was that they had run out of stock. And it to over 2 weeks to tell me that? I was so disappointed. However, there was some light at the end of the tunnel because the email from Jumia Ghana assured me that I will be contacted within an hour to discuss how my money will be refunded.
I waited…. 24 hours… no call. Eiiii Awurade! What is this that I have done?! Now my Panic reflex kicked in and I decided to call the Jumia Ghana customer service contact. There were apologies and apologies and later the agent I spoke to took my bank details and assured that a request for refund has been made and that in 3 days, I will get my money back in my account. That calmed me a little and I started counting down.
End of the third day… well … I received no bank alert. This time around I started seeing red. I called several times and each time I spoke to a different agent and I stated the same issue and got the same response. Jumia Ghana is processing my refund. Well the story is long, but eventually I got my money back after 1 month! A full month. And I also had to call a few people who knew people at Jumia Ghana to follow up for me. So after all the calls and details changes, I got my cash back.
The problem that I was made to believe caused the delay of my refund was that the Bank branch I provided was wrong and hence the money couldn’t be sent… Well I took that explanation like that because I didn’t know how I can make a mistake with my own bank details and why no one was contacting about that issue.
In the long run, they sent my money back to me through MTN mobile money and gave me a GHC100 voucher to pacify me for the inconvenience. Or was that a bribe? Hahahaha… certainly not, it was a gift! I was elated and used the voucher to buy T-shirts from Jumia Ghana as a reminder of my ordeal.
So did I buy stuff from Jumia online shopping store again? Yes I did and have been doing that very often. Buying mobile phones, phone accessories, trousers etc. I haven’t been disappointed again since except some one time that the product was so substandard… but I didn’t complain because it was cheap… cheap like dirt Cheap.
They have improved their payment system and now its easier making payment using JumiaPay. Let see how things go.
So I will say it’s okay to buy from Jumia Mall Ghana Online store and communication lines are very open always with some very nice agents.
UPDATE: the name is now Jumia Mall!!!
